About Mustek

Mustek Limited was founded by David Kan in 1987 and after dramatic organic growth the Mustek group was listed on the JSE in 1997 and on the Taiwan Stock Exchange some six years later in 2003.

Prior to 2008, the Mustek company’s product and sales focus was centered around Mecer, Mustek’s proprietary brand of PCs, Notebooks, Servers and peripherals, along with limited distribution of printers and consumables. Locally-assembled Mecer PCs are custom-built to end-user requirements, and the Mecer brand is still one of the highest-selling PC brands in South Africa.

However, consequent to the acquisition of sole distributorship of Toshiba notebooks in 2006, the group took the decision to adopt a horizontal growth strategy and to reposition the Mustek Company as a broad-based distributor of premium-brand and premium-quality IT and IT-related products. Essentially, this broad-base distribution strategy incorporates any product that utilises computing or is related to computing. Mustek embarked on an aggressive product expansion programme and now boasts an impressive range of premium-brand products.

Currently, Mustek has exclusive distributorship for Mecer, its proprietary brand range, as well as the Brother range of printers, fax machines and multi-function devices, and the Posiflex range of point-of-sale solutions. In addition, Mustek now distributes Acer (PCs, notebooks and projectors), APC (UPS, surge protectors and accessories), D-Link (networking solutions), Epson (printers and projectors), Fujitsu (scanners), General Dynamics (mobile ruggedised solutions), Huawei (Enterprise telecommunication, service and storage solutions), Lenovo (PCs and notebooks), Microsoft (hardware, OEM and DSP licensing Software, Xbox), nComputing (desktop virtualization), NEC (monitors and projectors) and Toshiba (notebooks and monitors).

Furthermore, Mustek has recently also established two different solutions divisions, namely Digital Signage and Security Technologies. These two divisions host a number of branded products which are integral to the specific solutions offered.

Mustek has a comprehensive infrastructure for a national support network, and branches offering the full range of service including distribution, service and repairs are located in Midrand (Headquarters), Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Nelspruit. Apart from Mecer, Mustek has been registered as an Authorised Service Provider by Acer, Brother, General Dynamics, Lenovo, nComputing, NEC (servers and storage), Posiflex, POS Solutions, Digital Signage, Security Technologies and Toshiba.

With regards to the above, apart from Mecer, Mustek’s proprietary brand, Mustek has been registered as an Authorised Service Provider by Acer, Brother, Fujitsu (scanners), Lenovo (carry in) , NEC (servers), Posiflex, and Toshiba.

Mustek has now secured the enviable position of being a truly complete IT hardware distributor, able to offer any corporate, office or home IT-related solution on whatever scale throughout South Africa.
